Day-wise Gangtok Itinerary (3 Nights 4 Days)
Day 1: Bagdogra / NJP to Gangtok (approx. 125 km, 4–5 hrs)
Our driver meets you at Bagdogra Airport or NJP station. The drive follows the emerald Teesta river through Sevoke and Rangpo, where Sikkim begins. Check in, rest, and spend the evening strolling MG Marg – Gangtok’s clean, vehicle-free promenade. Try steaming momos and a cup of local tea.
Day 2: Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir excursion
Start early (around 7 AM). Tsomgo Lake sits at about 3,753 m and is a 2–2.5 hour drive from Gangtok. Enjoy yak rides on the shore, then continue to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. If you have an extra permit, add Nathula Pass (Indian nationals only). Return to Gangtok by late afternoon.
Day 3: Gangtok local sightseeing
Cover Rumtek Monastery, Enchey Monastery, Do Drul Chorten, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Banjhakri Falls, Tashi View Point, Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok. Ride the Gangtok ropeway for panoramic city views. Evening free for shopping at Lal Bazaar.

Permits You Need for Gangtok Sightseeing
- Indian citizens: No permit to enter Gangtok. Tsomgo Lake and Nathula need a protected-area permit, arranged by your registered tour operator one day before (carry 2 passport photos + photo ID).
- Foreign nationals: Need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter Sikkim; Nathula is not allowed for foreigners.
- Sikkim has introduced a nominal tourist entry fee (about ₹50) collected via hotels. Always check the latest rules on the official Sikkim Tourism website.
Best Time to Book a Gangtok Tour Package
October–December gives the clearest Kanchenjunga views, while March–May brings rhododendron blooms. Monsoon (June–September) can cause landslides on NH10. Read more in our best time to visit Sikkim guide.
What Most Gangtok Blogs Miss (Our Local Tips)
- Altitude care: Tsomgo is high. Drink water, avoid alcohol the night before, and do not run around at the lake.
- Plastic rules: Sikkim restricts packaged drinking water bottles in many areas – carry a reusable bottle.
- Cab zoning: Gangtok taxis are zone-based; a Siliguri cab may not run local sightseeing. Packages solve this.
- Cash: ATMs exist in Gangtok but not on the Tsomgo route.
- Kids & elders: Children under 5 and people with heart/breathing issues should consult a doctor before high-altitude trips.
